Haha, well in that case I suppose it could be quite scary

Quote from DragonCommando :From my experiance older mercedes have some odd handeling characteristics. That could have been just the car I drove, but I don't know. I drove an 88' Benz, not sure what model. It was red with grey accents and had lowering spring installed.

I really wouldn't make any judgments based on this particular car given you said it had lowering springs installed... You can completely mess up the ride and handling by changing the springs if you don't know what you're doing, or if the people selling the springs didn't know what they were doing... Sometimes lowering springs focus purely on getting the car lower without too much concern for how it will affect the handling.

Sounds like 'fun' durbster I guess it comes down to how well it's sorted and what the powerband is like etc, but with a similar powerband to my friend's Miata, I think it would still feel controllable and enjoyable with 300 or more.

Quote from Osco :250rwhp in a miata is scary fast (you will walk evo's, sti's easily)

Well my opinion having spent hours driving a 260rwhp Miata was that this one was not 'scary' fast but pretty damn quick (all depends on how you define scary fast though, I have driven stis, 350z's and s2000s and would consider them to be quick, but not near scary fast). I think it's the powerband on this one, it's got such a flat torque curve and so much mid range that it doesn't feel as quick as it is. If it was peakier and there was more of a jump in power as you got higher in rpm it would feel quicker and scarier. But with this one it builds gradually and smoothly.

As for traction, you need to launch it really gently without building boost beforehand, otherwise you will get a lot of wheelspin in 1st gear. But if you launch gently enough you can get just a bit of wheelspin when you put your foot down in 1st, and it'll hook up in 2nd no problem assuming the tires are fairly fresh and sticky. Off the line it loses out to a hard launched stock sti, but it's gaining on it by 2nd gear and will have passed it somewhere in 3rd gear. From a roll it easily smokes an sti... just think, about the same wheel hp as a stock sti except it weighs 2200lb instead of 3300lb...

I genuinely think the laser scanning is a great thing... if it makes for more accurate tracks then what's to lose? I do agree that it's a pain in the ass not being able to test cars you don't own, even if it would only be for 10 minutes... I suppose they're banking on people just buying them to try them.

Quote from durbster :It's definitely achievable - a mate of mine is around there now, although his 1.8 is more like a 2 litre nowadays. Last dyno was 335bhp and he's done more stuff since. It's far too quick for public roads - especially since he's still on 195 width tyres - but he just can't stop tinkering

Awesome Yeah, my friend with 260hp came by the other day and said on his way over he was getting wheelspin in 4th gear in the rain... He's got 195s on and his tires are starting to lack tread and they're a little hard... So lots of wheelspin. I've driven his Miata quite a lot on the road and at autox, and on the street it's FAST but it's not quite F-ING FAST! You need to respect it, but really it's still nice and playful and not scary quick. Although it is still plenty fast enough, 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and he's topped out on the rev limiter in 5th gear at 156mph (yes he put a taller rear end on it), and that was with the roof down, up a hill I'm sure once you start getting above 300whp that's when it starts getting really serious

What size engine is the soarer? My friend's miata is a 1.8... I have a friend with a 1.6 turbo'd as well but he's running less boost and making nowhere near the power. Someone else I know is doing rods and pistons and throwing a larger turbo on his 1.8 and aiming for 350rwhp once he's all done!

Quote from Klutch :City driving?
Don't need a turbo to stop, start, stop, start constantly..it'd just waste fuel.

Only reason as to why you would ever really want to hit boost is if you're on a bit of a spirited drive, or you want to over-take someone.

My friend's turbo miata makes 260rwhp @ 12lbs and he gets as good fuel economy now as he did before putting the turbo on, assuming he's driving gently obviously And you don't always need to be in boost. You can quite happily drive around town gently without going past 0lbs. Sure if you start driving aggressively the fuel economy suffers, but otherwise it's really pretty good.

Quote from Hankstar :If the guy was using the AK on full-automatic and just held the trigger down, it maybe would've taken 10 seconds to empty the 30-round magazine (I think my maths is right, an AK's firing rate is about 600 rounds per minute). If that was the case, that's some seriously panicked & paranoid firing right there.

Well if it's 600 rounds per minute, that's 10 rounds per second, so 30 rounds would have taken 3 seconds, for what it's worth

I heard back from my friend and he said he'd love to help, and that it looks like it's going to be a great piece when it's done, but that's beyond the scope of what he's currently able to do... I said I'd send him some pics of it when you have it done, so make sure to post some up

Yeah, I agree with Intrepid.... I always think I'd jump at the chance to race in real life (apart from the autocross I've done...) but in reality if I really wanted it I'd have been saving up non-stop and devoting everything towards making progress... But really I've just gone "hmm, I think I could be good at that, but I'm not willing to risk it all to find out". Although I'd love to get into local motorcycle racing in a year or two... but we'll see if it actually happens

Quote from Intrepid :OK their website is not working and hav had problems with this update... I AM NOT HAPPY! 2 hours in and already problems! Quicker than with NetKar! Just paid them money and it aint f*cking working!

Quote from Intrepid :Considering this is a subscription BASED SERVICE, which means time is money, every minute LOST IS MY MONEY BEING WASTED!

ohh, I see, it's subscription based, sorry BASED.

Quote from Intrepid :It is a subscription BASED service.... the consequence being my TIME is running out which is MY money!

Ahh I didn't get that last time you said it.

Quote from Intrepid :The issue here is that this is a SUBSCRIPTION based service.[/B]!

Oh, it's SUBSCRIPTION based. I thought it was subscription BASED. I'm confused...

Quote from Intrepid :I am a PAYING customer

Quote from Intrepid :I entered into a 1 month contract with them

Oh, a contract. So it's kinda like a subscription eh?

Quote from Intrepid :Unfortunately you have to pay for the privilege to find out for yourself.

Quote from Intrepid :If this was not a subscription based simulation I would be far more patient

Quote from Intrepid :every minute this game doesn't work my money is being wasted

Quote from Intrepid :Time ticking......

Ok, I think I am FINALLY starting to get what you're saying here... It's a subscription BASED service, and you are wasting your TIME because it's your MONEY going down the drain. You are NOT HAPPY because of all this as you're a PAYING customer. Wow, congratulations on making your point many times over and over again! I'm glad you did, because I'm sure most people here didn't already realize it's a subscription based service! But now you've said it 10 times in a row, people will start to catch on I'm sure.

Quote from Intrepid :Hopefully I will be compenstaed for my lost time, and that iRacing act promptly. If they do they will get my FULL endorsement

Wow, a FULL (!!!) endorsement from some ***hole on the LFS Forums! COOL! They could really use that, given they've not already got Dale Earnhardt Jr, Alex Gurney, Justin Wilson, AJ Allmendinger... etc giving it the thumbs up. Oh no, wait, they do have those people.

Quote from Intrepid :I have contacted the iRacing team, and at this time recommend no one pay for iRacing until this is sorted

Yes, that makes sense... because you're having troubles, nobody should pay for iRacing. That's like saying you feel sick after a McDonalds hamburger and you expect nobody to eat there until you are feeling better. Or you had a motorcycle accident so nobody should ride motorcycles until you recover from your injuries.

Either you will ignore my post or you will reply, using lots of capitals and if you took my advice possibly italics and underlines! And if you are really offended, I will use the old trick of coming back after the point and saying "oh i was only joking, haha! sorry, maybe i should have used more winks, i guess my sarcasm doesn't come through well on the internet!"

Well I haven't really been on iRacing at all during this week... I am thinking of just starting up in the Skippy again soon and practicing the upcoming tracks for the next season... I have decided to just do one or two races each week to make sure I maximize my points in the Skippy series... then I will spend the rest of my time in other series.

Quote from Intrepid :Well considering it's supposed to be the best of the best of the best sir and i have just paid my money for this JOKE of a sim I am more than entitled to vent my anger.

I downloaded everything and now the sim is refusing to load. Considering this is a subscription BASED SERVICE, which means time is money, every minute LOST IS MY MONEY BEING WASTED!

I LIKE HOW YOU FEEL THE NEED TO USE CAPS AND BOLD TO GET YOUR POINT ACROSS!!! MAYBE YOU SHOULD START UNDERLINING AND USING ITALICS ALSO!!!

Anyway, glad you think it's a joke and a waste of money, I guess it means you won't be littering this thread WITH LOTS OF CAPS AND BOLD too much in the future.

Quote from AlienT. :You know you've played too much LFS when you automatically know that there is another thread asking the same question.

Well surely that says less about how much you play LFS and more about how much time you spend lurking on the forums But yeah... it's funny coming back to this forum every now and then and finding the most discussed topics being almost identical to the last time I came...
